A 32-year-old woman lost sight in one eye after her sister-in-law hurled acid on her due to a property dispute. The victim Pandiselvi, married to Saravanan, a  resident of Ponniyammedu at Madhavaram, was attacked by her sister-in-law Meenal on Tuesday. Neither Saravanan nor his two children were at home when the attack took place.
Pandiselvi was being harassed by her mother-in-law Ulagathal and  Meenal over the property dispute and it took a turn for the worse when Meenal attacked Pandiselvi with acid. Saravanan admitted Pandiselvi in a hospital but did not lodge a police complaint until Friday when doctors confirmed that his wife has lost vision in one eye. Meenal has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder. Ulagathal is reported absconding.
Doc Ends Life
Dr B Edwin, 38,  a doctor from Nagercoil, committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train just weeks after he was re-united with his doctor-wife. His body was shifted to the Kanyakumari Medical College and Hospital where Edwin’s wife Ani Justin Mary and her kin gathered and demanded that the body be handed over to them for burial while the kin of Edwin insisted that he be buried at Kurumbanai. Police had to intervene and finally Edwin’s wife decided that her husband be laid to rest in his native.
